Uber Advanced Technologies Group hires Oculus platform lead Jon Thomason
Through the Advanced Technology Group, Jon Thomason, who has most recently played the role of Mobile and Product Manager at Facebook, has been engaged by Oculus' Virtual Reality Company. Thomason will lead ATG software teams across Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto, working on ATG's advanced software projects, including stand-alone and trucking.
Thomason joined Oculus as a software manager in 2016 and took over responsibility for his VR Mobile products in December, when Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus, developed a monitoring role for PC-based RVs Shopping at Amazon and vice president for technology at Qualcomm.
His experience included a number of different types of software applications, and he worked on Qualcomm's Application Processor software team, focusing on chip capabilities on mobile media, camera and OS support. Thomason also oversaw Microsoft's launch system software for his Xbox console and his Xbox Live online gaming service for his ten years and a half at Windows Maker. It also directs the development process of the kernel for Windows 95 during Microsoft.
"We are very pleased to welcome Jon to Uber ATG," said UGG Eric Meyofers Uberhead in a statement at TechCrunch. "His success in software engineering and his experience in introducing innovative new products make him an excellent addition to our team and we look forward to seeing him in action."
The extensive experience of Thomason should provide a broad base to lead the software development plans of Uber ATG. The software projects of the company include in-depth learning, computer vision, security systems, security, autonomy, mapping and more. A flexible generalist, like Thomason, with a lot of history working on core-level software is an excellent choice for a complex and diverse product development.
At present, the Uber ATG team has more than 200 people who work on a single software, so the company. The first day of Thomason on work is today, September 11th.
