ASUU Strike may be called off soon.
After a 14-hour meeting, which ended on Friday morning, the federal government and the university unions of the ASUU academy had made a new agreement.
The management of ASUU, although it has accepted the proposal submitted by the government, insists on the proposal to its members as they have promised to return to the government in a week. The ASUU president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the government and ASUU had reached an agreement on their demands with the federal government. He stated that the ASUU would accept the proposal submitted by the Federal Government to their requests. "The concrete proposal, which was received at the council, will be made available to our members of the National Board (NEC) for further discussion." We will report to the federal government over the next week whether they should be triggered or not the strike, "he said.
At the end of the meeting, a communiqué was issued which gave the association an ultimatum of one week to return the strike to the government.
Labor and employment minister Chris Ngige, who highlighted the statement to reporters before 15:30 on Friday, said the government had committed itself to the controversial issues of the union.
Ngige said: "To remind you of some financial universities, school grants, personal schools, salary deficits, the individual account account of the treasury, among other things. Most of these problems come from the 2009 agreement and the agreement of 2013 that the government had at ASUU.
On the basis of our findings, ASUU will consult with its members and return to the government within a deadline. We are waiting for them within a week, and the meeting was very warm.
Education minister Adamu Adamu also confirmed that he had reached an agreement with ASUU, pointing out that the union wanted to return to the government within a week after consultation with other members.
