Lagos Moves to get Tutorial Centres in the State Registered.

The Lagos state government, through its agency for mass education, says it will begin to close all non-registered training centers (CEC) into the state from 9/11.

Obafela Bank-Olemoh, Governor Special Education Advisor, said on Tuesday in Lagos.

Mr. Bank-Olemoh said that the closure was made necessary by the refusal of some tutoring operators and educational centers to continue to comply with the state directive to register their centers and pay their annual taxes according to several opinions from the state.

He said in a statement that the government had been subjected to a previous downfall of these centers after a close meeting with industry's representatives on 26 September 2016.

According to him, stakeholders have agreed to work with the state to promote the unification of the education sector in line with international best practice.

"They promised their commitment to improving the quality of education in the state by maintaining high standards and professionalism.

"The failure of the tutorial and education centers continues to be in line with the government's guideline, as several follow-up commitments have led to the determination to begin the downfall.

"This is done by the Agency for Mass Education according to Article 2, Section 4.3 of 1991, which obliges the Agency to monitor the activities of all educational institutions in the state.

"Lagos residents are registered in these tutoring centers and government, and we need to ensure that high-quality service is provided to our employees.

"We have to set standards and apply them," he said.

However, Mr Bank-Olemoh asked tutoring operators and training centers around the country to register with the Agency for Mass Education and to comply with all regulations, including the payment of the taxes imposed, in order to prevent them from being arrested.
